All India Progressive Students Association (AIPSA)
The All India Progressive Students Association (AIPSA) strongly condemns the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands its immediate withdrawal. We also demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who must take moral responsibility for the growing concerns surrounding the electoral roll revision process.
The right to vote is a fundamental pillar of India’s democratic system. Every eligible citizen must have the right to participate in the electoral process without fear, discrimination or unnecessary obstacles. The removal of names from electoral rolls, without adequate transparency, proper verification and effective opportunities for appeal, creates serious concerns about the protection of citizens’ democratic rights.
The Election Commission of India is an independent constitutional institution entrusted with the responsibility of conducting free and fair elections. Its credibility depends on transparency, impartiality and public confidence. Allegations and questions concerning the functioning of the Commission and the SIR process cannot be ignored. The Chief Election Commissioner must be accountable to the people of this country.
AIPSA believes that students and young people have a significant responsibility to defend democratic values, constitutional rights and the principles of equality. Democracy cannot survive if eligible citizens are deprived of their right to vote.
We therefore demand:
1. Immediate scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
2. Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on moral grounds.
3. Restoration and proper verification of the names of eligible voters excluded from electoral rolls.
4. A transparent, independent and impartial investigation into allegations concerning the SIR process.
5. Protection of every citizen’s constitutional right to vote without discrimination.
AIPSA appeals to students, youth, democratic organisations and progressive forces across the country to raise their voices in defence of democracy and electoral rights.
Protect Voting Rights!
Defend Democracy!
Scrap SIR!
